Introduction to the new Leadership Success Profile (LSP)

We’re excited to launch the new Leadership Success Profile (LSP) – a powerful and insightful tool designed to support leaders.

What is the Leadership Success Profile?

The purpose of the LSP is to underpin an inclusive approach which describes the leadership characteristics required to build inclusive cultures and to support the development of a diverse population of leaders.

It’s for all leaders apart from Chief Executives, those in Director level posts and those aspiring to these roles.

The LSP was developed through wide engagement with leaders and frontline teams at all levels, across social work, social care and health organisations, operating regionally and nationally. With alignment to our national strategy and cultural aspirations to ensure that the Success Profile is tailored to these specific requirements of the social work, social care and health workforce within Scotland and the needs of the populations we serve.

Introduction to LSP: Summary video

In this concise and insightful video, occupational psychologist Chris Martin introduces the Operational Manager Leadership Success Profile.

Chris outlines:

  • The purpose and structure of the success profile
  • Its three core elements: behaviours, personality/values/motivation, and transition requirements
  • How it supports inclusive leadership, career development, and organisational culture
  • Practical applications including self-reflection, 360-degree feedback, and career planning

Whether you’re a new or experienced leader, this video offers a clear and practical guide to using the Leadership Success Profile to enhance your effectiveness and impact.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the Leadership Success Profile for?

It is designed for all leaders across social work, social care, and health, apart from Chief Executives, those in Director level posts and those aspiring to these roles. It is also useful for those looking to step up to their first team leadership role.

How does this affect the Leading to Change app?

The app now uses the LSP as the profile for the new Leadership Self Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ), for recommended learning, development planning, and recommended resources. If you have selected yes for option 2 in your data preferences, allowing your organisation to contact you through the app about leadership opportunities, or have submitted a SAQ as part of an application for a leadership programme, then you may notice changes in how your profile is evaluated and matched with leadership opportunities.

What are the benefits of using the LSP?

It helps you understand your strengths, identify development needs, develop in your current role, and can also help you prepare for future roles. It also supports a consistent, values-based approach to leadership across Scotland.

Do I need to take any action?

If you have already used the Leading to Change app, or even the Project Lift app before the rebrand, we recommend logging in, reviewing your profile, and completing a new Leadership Self Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ). This will provide a tailored development report that aligns with the new framework and your current situation. If you are new to our app, then we would recommend registering and setting up with our new simplified profile that lets you get started with the Leadership SAQ within a couple of minutes.

How does the Leadership Success Profile relate to other leadership frameworks that I might have used?

The Leadership Success Profile has been designed to build on and reflect leadership standards and frameworks used across different parts of social work, social care and health, e.g. the six leadership capabilities used across the workforce, National Occupational Standards, and others.

How can I use the Leadership Success Profile and associated learning activity to support my continuous professional learning and development?

Engaging with the Leadership Success Profile, the various tools related to it, and Leading to Change leadership development activities will contribute to your continuous professional learning and development. If you are required to provide evidence of this to your line manager or as part of your registration with a regulator or professional body, you can use your engagement with the learning to do this.

Where can I find more information?

Our App

Do I need a TURAS account to access the Leading to Change app?

Yes. The Leading to Change app is held on the TURAS platform and you need a TURAS login to access it. If you have a TURAS account for any application i.e. Learn, Performance Appraisal, 360, Training, then you can access the Leading to Change app using this. Click the ‘Leading to Change app’ at the top right of every page and this will take you to a TURAS logon page. Once you have used your TURAS sign on details, it will automatically open the app for you. If you do not have a TURAS account you can create one in a few simple steps for free.

Is the Leading to Change app the old Project Lift app?

The Project Lift app migrated into the Leading for Change app. This was a rebrand which meant the colours, logos and some of the language changed but everything else stayed the same.

How do I access and complete the SAQ?

You can access and complete the Leadership SAQ through the Leading to Change website. Click on ‘Leading to Change app’ (available in the top right menu of every page) and you will be asked to log in. Using your TURAS login and password, you will then be asked to complete a simplified profile before being directed to the Leadership SAQ. If you don’t have a TURAS login you can follow the instructions in ‘Create an account’ to set one up, and this is free. Once completed you will receive a tailored feedback report, to help you consider your next steps in your development journey.

Can I part complete and return later to my SAQ?

Yes. Your information is saved on the app as soon as you input it, so you won’t lose anything if you log out and return to the app later. Please note there is no “Exit” button but your data is saved up to the point you exit the app.

If you had an old SAQ that was not complete this has now been replaced in your dashboard with the option to start a new Leadership SAQ.

Leadership Development

What’s new or different about the Leading to Change approach to Leadership Development?

Leading to Change believes that good leadership, role modelling values of kindness, compassion and collaborative working can help to improve the culture and wellbeing of staff and lead to better care.

Our Leading to Change leadership development approach focuses on developing a fresh ethos, focused on collaboration, compassion, humility, curiosity and public service. Finding the most appropriate development opportunities for the individual is key. We are sharing information including development programmes, coaching and mentoring information, events and resources so that leaders at all levels can find development that is appropriate to the their own individual needs. The Leading to Change approach to communities serves as a new approach to connect people across the social work, social care, health, public, private and independent sectors to share leadership experiences, ideas, difficulties, support and opportunities. This has provided a growing bank of community assets over the years that we are able to offer back as resources and this practice will continue as a key part of the Leading to Change offer.

How do I access leadership development sponsored by Leading to Change?

Finding the most appropriate development opportunities for the individual, wherever they are based, is key. This is informed by the completion of the new Leadership Self Assessment Questionnaire with identification of areas of strength and areas for development. Leading to Change continues to develop and offer a range of different leadership development opportunities that are based on both need and agency, i.e. the individual’s development needs and motivation to develop themselves as a leader. There are a number of information points about these offers such as our What’s on Offer pages and through our mailing list which you can sign up to on our contact page or in the footer of every page on our website.

Leading to Change Community. What is this? How can I get involved?

Central to the ambitions of Leading to Change are the opportunities to enable vibrant and liberating spaces for leaders to connect from across the system to inspire, exchange and learn together either face to face or via digital events.  We have been embracing and creating opportunities for everyone and anyone to:

  • feel welcomed regardless of grade or profession to be part of a community or movement of leaders ambitious in making a leadership contribution across our social work, social care, health, third and voluntary settings in Scotland
  • connect with others to share perspectives and stories
  • voice experiences and interest in leadership, culture and wellbeing
  • build individual and collective agency
  • make a collective contribution to the leadership of social work, social care and health across Scotland.

To be successful and meaningful for members, we are taking a co-production approach to development, providing community members the opportunity to model real collaborative learning in action.  Everyone is invited to join in and if you register with the Leading to Change App or sign up to the distribution list you will be kept informed of opportunities as they arise.  We are always interested in hearing from people who have something to share, an idea, or an example of innovation or thinking differently.
