Leadership Links Webinar: Shine a Light – system sustainability, capacity and leadership

Date and time
Wednesday, 20 September 2023, 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm (GMT)
Location
Virtual event.

This event is now in the past.

We’re all part of a complex ecosystem of teams, organisations, partnerships, policies. Wouldn’t things be better if that system would only change?! This introductory webinar explores the importance of looking up and out from your own organisation, helping people and ideas to flow across traditional boundaries.

We begin by considering the need: why system capacity matters right now. We will then introduce straightforward definitions and reflect on three fundamental principles together.

This leads into consideration of what system capacity is and how it can be developed through five main practices. The session concludes with an overview of system leadership and five behaviours for managing across organisational boundaries.

The webinar is based on the recently published guide, ‘Shine a Light’, available as a free download on a Creative Commons licence.

Participants don’t need to read the guide or prepare in advance but they might find it helpful to think about the ‘systems’ they are part of: e.g. teams, organisations, networks, communities, sectors.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will have developed:

  • Broader understanding of system capacity and how to support it
  • Increased understanding of leading across organisational boundaries
  • Increased ability to contribute to system leadership
