“Humility is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less” – CS Lewis, British writer and literary scholar.
Do ever worry that asking questions feels nosy, pushy or even a little aggressive? Maybe you feel like asking questions can make you look naive or lacking in knowledge or confidence. Edgar Schein offers a framework to get past these feelings through his concept of ‘Humble Inquiry’.
In this session, we will delve into the principles of this concept uncovering how asking thoughtful questions can develop deeper connections and mutual understanding, and of building a relationship based on genuine curiosity and interest in the other person. We will offer some practical ways to engage in meaningful conversations that build trust and collaboration without feeling uncomfortable or naive.
Join us for an enlightening session on “Using Questions to Connect and Understand Others,” where we will explore how this approach can transform your interactions.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- Describe The 4 Types of Conversation
- Describe what is meant by ‘Humble Inquiry’
- Explain how this is relevant to your role
- Identify one step you will take to improve your communication as a leader
