Diversity Coffee Connect: Privilege – A Clumsy Conversation Worth Having
In this session we get curious about the word privilege. We notice that this concept is often misunderstood and evokes different, and often strong, reactions in conversations relating to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at work.
Join us for a clumsy conversation about privilege and how this relates to our own leadership practice. We will consider the following questions:
• What? – What does privilege really mean?
• Why? – Why does this matter?
• So what? – How does this relate to allyship and inclusive leadership?
What you can expect:
We will start the session with an introduction from the team, then participants will be put into smaller groups to allow for deeper reflection and conversation.
Prior to this event, to help inform our conversations, we encourage you to have a look at some optional, suggested reading on this topic:
- 2-minute watch – BBC Bitesize – What is privilege?
- 1-minute read – The academic wheel of privilege – Academic wheel of privilege – UK Research Integrity Office
- 3-minute read – Forbes – Privilege Is Not A Dirty Word
